The Whipcracker

By ELLIE MURRAY-YONG

Considering the weird and wonderful staff that occupy the RTRFM office, it’s lucky there’s someone to keep them all in line. ‘Cherie Carlo’, famously known around the station as The Whipcracker, has been keeping order and cracking whips behind the scenes for over 12 years.

As part of an ongoing series looking at our some of our long-serving volunteers and presenters, Youth reporter Ellie Murray-Yong today looks at the story of the Whipcracker.

They talk about World War Two, learning to jive in a rundown kitchen at the tender age of 15, the London music scene in the 60’s, and how all of this has kept this station legend cracking the whip at RTRFM.
