Let’s talk about sex – sexual health that is.
It’s the conversation we have to have because clearly the message of safe sex isn’t getting through to us, with rates of sexually transmitted infections reaching new highs. HIV infection rates in Australians increased by more than eight per cent last year and STIs like gonorrhoea and chlamydia are becoming more common.
Health researchers believe up to 10,000 people in Australia have HIV and don’t know it, and while HIV and AIDS are no longer life threatening, the implications for public health are devastating.
Youth Reporter Sarah Motherwell spoke with newly appointed CEO of the WA AIDS Council, Andrew Burry about our attitudes toward sexual health.
