Disclaimers

By Sarah Motherwell

Have you ever seen in the description of someone’s Twitter feed the disclaimer “Views are my own”? Or perhaps your Facebook friends have posted a disclaimer to prevent public use of their page’s content.

“You are hereby notified that you are strictly prohibited from disclosing, copying, whinging or taking any other action against me with regard to this profile and the terrible trolling within, including, but not limited to my insults and/or the comments made about your cats…”

Has been appearing on a number of feeds over the last few days... but is it real.

Youth News Reporter Sarah Motherwell spoke with University of Western Australia Communications Associate Professor Tauel Harper to find out whether this is all legal mumbo jumbo or an actual way of safeguarding yourself online.
