Save The Pelican

By Jess Allen

Editorial independence is a sacred power in the media, one that many people have fought their entire lives to defend.

Well this fight has been brought to the University of Western Australia – a group of people are trying to stop the UWA guild from changing the editor selection process for the student publication Pelican.

On Tuesday the guild will vote on a motion to change the normal staff-based process to select Pelican editor and instead give a guild council sub-committee the power to appoint their own candidate.

One of the people behind the movement to oppose this change is former Pelican editor Patrick Malborough.
